This workshop is designed for any individual involved
in the scheduling process. Schedulers and all

IMC NCR QUARTERLY PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM PROPOSAL by Roy
Steel, CMC and R. Mallory Starr, CMC.
IMC NCR is proposing a training and development
program to small management consulting firms and
solo management consulting practitioner groups in
the National Capital Region. Our plan is to eventually
offer the program on a quarterly basis to firms with
less than 20 staff members. The format would be one
day seminars/workshops presented by IMC NCR
members. The goals are: to make consultants and
targeted consulting firms aware of the value of IMC
membership; provide management consultants with
quality programs on professional development;
become a consulting training and development
resource for new associates and consulting firms who
are experienced but want more developmental
training. As a spin-off, it is expected that IMC will
increase membership and that IMC members will
receive consulting engagement opportunities.

I recommend the book Good to Great: Why Some
Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't
by Jim Collins. Mr. Collins asks the question, "Can a
good company become a great company and if so,
how?" This book gives the answer and in the
process, teaches you how to transform your own
professional performance.
Hardcover: 320 pages
Publisher: Collins (October, 2001)

Management Consulting for Corporate Renewal by Mallory Starr, CMC |

David James, professional crisis manager,
describes a typical workday as follows—“On my first
day, the Tuesday after Christmas, my office windows
were stoned, and my car was vandalized. On
Wednesday, there was a pitch battle between
maintenance shop workers and the toolmakers. Later
that day, I discovered that in August the company’s
largest customer had cancelled his order but no one
told the production staff so we were horrendously
overstocked. On Thursday, the payroll was robbed
and the unions called a strike. On Friday, the main
boilers blew up and it was almost a relief to send
everybody home. The planned sale of the company
fell through and I ended up running the company for
two years. I had the time of my life. We eventually
redesigned and relocated the factory, reduced the
workforce from 1,000 to 500, all with union support.”
